Green Hydrogen

A decisive step toward industrial decarbonization

The project

The system includes a 1 MW electrolyzer, capable of producing an average of 210 Nm³/hour of green hydrogen, equivalent to over 450 kg per day, stored in dedicated tanks.
The facility is powered by a 1 MW hydropower plant, built on a decommissioned hydraulic structure and fully repurposed for this project, and by a 300 kWp photovoltaic system installed on industrial roofs to ensure continuous energy supply even during periods of reduced water availability.

The complex will be built on a decommissioned industrial site adjacent to the Cogne Acciai Speciali steel plant in Aosta, transforming an abandoned area into a hub for sustainable innovation.

A tangible Impact

Thanks to this system, it will be possible to replace part of the fossil fuels currently used, with an expected production of 58 tonnes of renewable hydrogen per year, resulting in a significant reduction of CO₂ emissions and other atmospheric pollutants.

Green Hydrogen in Cogne

An innovative project is taking shape in Aosta: Green Hydrogen in Cogne, a cutting-edge facility dedicated to the production, storage, and use of renewable hydrogen in support of industrial processes.

The initiative, implemented by Cogne Acciai Speciali S.p.A., with the project design developed by Eaux Valdôtaines and the support of the Polytechnic University of Turin, represents a concrete step toward the decarbonization of the steel industry and the energy transition of the territory.

A Pioneering Model for Italy

Green Hydrogen in Cogne represents one of the first integrated facilities in Italy for the production and industrial use of green hydrogen.
A replicable model arising from the integration of technological innovation and environmental sustainability, designed to open a new chapter in the transition toward clean and responsible energy.

With this initiative, Eaux Valdôtaines demonstrates how industry, local territory, and a sustainable future can coexist—transforming the Aosta Valley into a national center of excellence for ecological transition.

The Green Hydrogen in Cogne project is funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU
